Welcome! This is my attempt at an Un-official Martha Wainwright Blog. It's been going for a while now and although there was a need to begin with- Since I first started out, Martha's website and Facebook page have lots more info! This is just a back up now really, but hope it is useful :)

Celebration of Kate McGarrigle
Forgot to add some pics.... not great, but they are what I have and so I shall share them.....
Well I went to the tribute show for Kate McGarrigle at London's Royal Festival Hall last night and it was a fantastic evening.
Highlights included Richard reuniting with Linda Thompson for a duet on Go, Leave; Nick Cave duetting with Jenni Muldaur, Neil Tennant (!) singing I Cried for Us; Emmylou Harris and Anna on Talk to me of Mendocino; Rufus Wainwright's fine Walking Blues; Chain Tannenbaum and company on Loudon's Swimming Song; Martha Wainwright on Come a Long Way; Teddy Thompson and Lily Lanken (Anna's daughter) sharing the stage; Joe Boyd telling a story of discovering the sisters' first demo tapes; and a group version of Kate's last song, Prosperina, during which both Martha and Rufus each broke down. Lisa Hannigan was the 'find' of the evening, and gave an absolutely stunning version of Tell My Sister. Richard Thompson largely confined himself to playing electric guitar (alongside one of the Seeger-McColls).
I have to admit to being moist-eyed at numerous points in the show. It was such a moving evening, and it spoke volumes for everything that the extended Thompson, Wainwright, McGarrigle and Muldaur clans had worked for over the past 35 years. I was never a great fan of the notion of tribute shows, but this one was quite unforgettable.
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."
-- Marcel Proust
(Although new landscapes sometimes help! :) )
