Welcome! This is my attempt at an Un-official Martha Wainwright Blog. It's been going for a while now and although there was a need to begin with- Since I first started out, Martha's website and Facebook page have lots more info! This is just a back up now really, but hope it is useful :)

regents park support news

well it seems a bit conflicting, unless there are two supports, which there could be....

here is the link to the open air theatre that says Liam Frost (of the duet with Martha) will be supporting, but here it says that someone called 'Delta Maid' is supporting her.

a few bits and bobs as sort of always....

there is an article in French about the Piaf gig in France last night here (anyone who can translate it, please feel free- i think i can make out a couple of sentences but not really properly- there is a pic at least for those like me who can not!)

and this looks interesting, but have not read it yet.... it is an interview with Martha from The Telegraph- i read the beginning and it says that it is the day before the Meltdown concert, which is strange that it is only appearing now... missed the actual paper i am guessing as it would have been today and today i was travelling home from being away!

ok by the time i have posted this i have read it.....

seems similar to this one: here think there may be some misquoting and stirring going on here, but you are all adults (i guess) and so can make up your own minds.... (i am also thinking it was a hard time to have an interview- while rehearsing for the concert......

there are pics from the Amsterdam show here and videos here

Sunday 25 July 2010

there are lots of videos of the amsterdam show in you tube

just do a 'martha wainwright' search and choose the 'newest' option there...

if it's easier start with this link to what i think is the best rendition of

Les Blouses Blanches

that i have seen so far.......

but check out the others too as they are all fantastic.... will add some in the links on the right soon.... as i know some will appear on vimeo....

.....and....

on her facebook page and twitter there are links to CBC and a show she did with Jann Arden (here)- the show is not up there, but guess it might be at some point....

....ok bye for now....

one of the best piaf i have seen i think!

tonight in Amsterdam! the venue was great and the packed in crowd loved it and gave a standing ovation- if you can have those in a non classical concert- i don't know.... tired, so writing badly.... but felt i just had to here before bed as it was so great... the intros/stories martha told before singing each song conveyed even more meaning than previously and she sung with great drama and stage presence, yet still maintaining herself.... her mother's songs as ever now a touching and necessary part of the show... the band sounded great and well there is nothing else to say at this point.... sooner or later videos and photos will appear from me and others.... but for now good night/morning....

Seeing if this works...

Might end up posting on some random blog by someone called martha. However time to make the most of my new mobile internet connection and wrtie a few immediate thoughts about tonights show in brighton. First thoughts were how I loved the kate songs the most.' Tell my sister' and know I am going to spell it wrong 'chemainant la ville'.

When I heard martha would be singing those (going on reports from previous shows) I could sense the connection martha might feel with the sentiments of esp Tell My Sister with the experiences of the past year. It was also lovely to hear that talk to me of mendoccino (prob also spelt wrong) was inspired by c'est toujours... I has always linked the tunes of them both in my head, but for some reason been too scared to comment on it. There was a sad feel to the concert on one level but these songs are somehow uplifting and inspiring.

I thought the instruments with the bass melodies coming through on those songs really suited then- supporting the flow of Marthas powerful voice. I think I liked hearing those because the meltdown concert is still very fresh and I have heard the piaf songs a few times live now before. Perhaps also ironically it is also now that the piaf connects to the what must have been a stressful time in London last Autumn and the thought that he mother had had such a part in the project. The Piaf were of course great too and I liked the story intros to them. Soudain une Vallee and C'est a Hambourg were lovely as was C'est toujours... I like the drama of les blouses blanches. (Please forgive spellings the whole way through- and while I am at it the grammar too!) 'This life' was great in the encore and I can't wait for a martha show with some of her new stuff as well as a mix of her old and mother's stuff.

Ok let's see if this works....
