Might end up posting on some random blog by someone called martha. However time to make the most of my new mobile internet connection and wrtie a few immediate thoughts about tonights show in brighton. First thoughts were how I loved the kate songs the most.' Tell my sister' and know I am going to spell it wrong 'chemainant la ville'.
When I heard martha would be singing those (going on reports from previous shows) I could sense the connection martha might feel with the sentiments of esp Tell My Sister with the experiences of the past year. It was also lovely to hear that talk to me of mendoccino (prob also spelt wrong) was inspired by c'est toujours... I has always linked the tunes of them both in my head, but for some reason been too scared to comment on it. There was a sad feel to the concert on one level but these songs are somehow uplifting and inspiring.
I thought the instruments with the bass melodies coming through on those songs really suited then- supporting the flow of Marthas powerful voice. I think I liked hearing those because the meltdown concert is still very fresh and I have heard the piaf songs a few times live now before. Perhaps also ironically it is also now that the piaf connects to the what must have been a stressful time in London last Autumn and the thought that he mother had had such a part in the project. The Piaf were of course great too and I liked the story intros to them. Soudain une Vallee and C'est a Hambourg were lovely as was C'est toujours... I like the drama of les blouses blanches. (Please forgive spellings the whole way through- and while I am at it the grammar too!) 'This life' was great in the encore and I can't wait for a martha show with some of her new stuff as well as a mix of her old and mother's stuff.
Ok let's see if this works....
