Ottawa Express - Afraid I am dashing in and out today and so I did not read this the whole way through, but it seems to be at least slightly different from the other two I posted.
Piaf Album out in Canada!
Have not got much time this second to go through all the related articles, but on first glance this one looks like it is worth a read:
Review from 'The Independent'
The Independent
If I read it correctly it seems to say that Rufus wrote The Walking Song at the end, but apart from that it is a very positive review. Another five stars...

The Guardian Review!
Five Stars of course again from the newspaper that really counts! (In my opinion that is...) Here
i'm still going on about it!!!
but why not...
other maybe obvious but secondary thoughts that just sort of came into my mind about why it was so good. (And I am not even trying to think about why it is so good, I am just watching again on vimeo/you tube and the songs are anyway going around in my head naturally....)
Ok.... now to get on with life here!!! Really want to hear a good recording of it though!!!
oh and another review here from the Evening Standard
Sunday, 13 June 2010
and you have to watch this too....
they keep coming..... Mother Mother, Nick Cave, Martha, Anna and Lily
you've got to watch some of these...
posted on vimeo - I Eat Dinner and this will lead you to more.... (p.s. this one is not Martha)
and...
... just had to mention Joel Zifkin's amazing accompaniment and the lovely harmonies of Lily and Sylvan! as I said thoughts as they come.... now as I cook and listen....
Seeing as this in a way can become even more of a personal blog...
..... now that the official site is up, I will just add my musings as they come and seeing as the concert is still so present. I can tell it is one of those when I will have the music going around in my head for a very long time. I will try though not to make the blog too personal as I know I can easily get carried away and have my own one for that! Ok, enough- I think I basically wanted to say that in a sense my overall liking of it so much was created by the fact that the music had the McGarrigle sound I love being truly retained, but yet the individuality of the performers shone through in such a lovely pure and simple way..... It is hard in life when writing things like this to not write in cliche's and I guess it is the job of real reviewers to manage to escape them... so I can get away with it I guess.... I also don't ever pay much specific thought to the production of something, but knowing the McGarrigle's first two albums a bit and having been to a couple of the Nick Drake Tributes as well as the Royal Albert Hall show, I could tell that Joe Boyd's production was essential (obviously) to the sound of the show. I commented on a bit on it to someone working there, and he was saying that it was sounding great too in his impression and much better than the night before's performance- that the they were getting a great sound out of the hall....
I don't always feel like trying to go into detail in trying to express my thoughts about concerts... but the fact that I feel like doing so with this one, means something too I think. Anyway it was nice to see that someone has already shared their impressions in a comment here.... Please feel free to add yours too as I love reading about what other people experienced!
Bye for now and maybe more later....

Fantastic
Moving with amazing singing, irony, tears, mix of old and new talent and a sense of community and what is right in life despite the sorrow. So pleased to have been there. Felt like a privilege. Sure news will follow with videos from people. Extremely brave performance from martha and all. Martha sung I am a diamond, Proserpina, matapedia among others. Words really can not express what an amazingly well produced and fitting show it was. Sure Kate would have been proud.
(edited version....)
Ok home now.... the above does sum it up really and I guess that it should do seeing as it was my first impression and in my experience first impressions are usually right. A lot of very brave performances. The sound that was coming from the band was great- the vibe it created and how it supported the singing and the flow of the evening. Songs that stood out apart from the ones that Martha sung mentioned above, was her singing with Nick Cave: 'Mother Mother' , Rufus singing 'Southern Boys' and Lisa Hannigan singing 'Tell My Sister', Emmylou and Rufus singing 'I eat Dinner'. It was an element I had not fully expected to work as well as it did- that of having the 'new' talent alongside the well known and 'old' family and friends- bit of bringing in the new in. I loved the irony of the evening too- as it was gentle but important to have I think. Linda and Richard Thompson singing 'Go Leave'. Teddy sung very tenderly. Krystle Warren, Neil Tennant, Entre La Jeunesse, Dink's Song..... could go on more.... It all seemed to be finished so quickly.... and already watching videos to try and relive it. The audience was greatly appreciative. I could not sit still, really hard to not be stirred by such music. I love how even with all the technology (which I love as much as I know I should not) and whatever, and all the stuff going on around us, music and particularly live music is still one of my favourite things....

Finally, we would like to announce that Martha's website will be completely re-vamped within the next two weeks! (Anytime between June 10th and 15th). The forum will definitely remain, and on that note, a big thank you to RighteousBoy for continuing to serve as the forum's administrator and to everyone else who contributes and makes this community as strong as it is!

A Message from Martha!!
Here:
here i am folding sheets, living out the last days of my domestic bliss. we are taking out the luggage and starting to go through lists of things to do before leaving. gearing up for the transatlantic flight to the meltdown festival in london. hopefully there will be no meltdowns on the plane with the little one, just a smooth flight to start us on our next chapter; an almost full three months of touring in some new places along with family members and a repertoire of piaf songs. last night i sang la vie en rose acapella at the closing party of marina abramovich's "the artist is here" and it reminded me of my favorite thing to do; SING.... and so I hope to see as many of you as possible on tour,
can hardly wait!
MW
can hardly wait!

Apparently Martha's new website should be up and running very soon indeed, so check it out and of course I will let you know here if I see it- but I am sure a lot of you will be quicker than me to spot it!
Looking forward to catching what I can of the tour!
i might be getting mixed up...
but there now seem to be Malmo and Stockholm dates for the same evening- 8th July... anyway, I shall wait and hear from a Swedish friend about that one, as the info is in Swedish!
I also added the link to the Copenhagen Jazz Festival on the 9th July, right....
